E-Mail Fax Services allow people to both send and receive faxes anywhere they can access their email account. They attach documents or pictures to their outbound email and send it to an internet fax provider. This provider will automatically process the fax on your behalf and will email you back confirmation once it has been sent.

Faxing documents has changed quite significantly over the past 10 years...

At first the fax machine was a large independent device that often had its own dedicated telephone connection. You inserted the document, dialled the receivers number and, when you heard the telephone conenct you pressed 'SEND'.

Since the internet began to grow in popularity, the older fax machines were generally replaced with 'fax modems'. These modems had a dual-purpose. They allowed a person to connect to the internet via their phone line and they also allowed people to send faxes from their computer using special software. Fax modems still used a traditional telephone line so the only benefit of them over a traditional fax was that it could send documents without the need to print and scan them.

Whilst traditional fax machines are still seen in most offices worldwide, the technology is outdated, limited and expensive compared to the alternative of emailing documents.

There are still however some advantages that a traditional fax has over email communications.
